Tairua is located at the gateway to the Eastern Sea border of the
Coromandel Peninsula, just 2 hours drive from central Auckland, Hamilton
and Tauranga, making it an ideal holiday getaway. Tairua, meaning “two
tides” has the best of both beach genres, the picturesque white sands
of Ocean Beach and the tranquil clear shallow waters of the inner
harbour beaches.
With a permanent population of about 1400
people, the town is a quiet tranquil retreat in winter and the influx to
around 15,000 people over the summer holidays brings a vibrant
energetic atmosphere to the town.
Tairua still has a traditional
beach feel with some real authentic coastal summer baches, but get
amongst the streets and you will see a full portfolio of hillside
mansions with their million dollar views. There is something for
everyone’s budget here.
Life is simple with just one
mini-supermarket, one gas station and a handful of cafes. A network of
walk ways connect most of the streets making strolling round the
neighbourhood and waterfronts a popular activity. Some extra essentials
make life easier, a full courier service, public buses to the cities, a
library, Countdown grocery delivery, St Johns ambulance depot, doctor’s
office and chemist.
For full time owner occupiers, the life here
is varied and can be as exciting as you want! Our local club guide
boosts a healthy number of activities from Yoga to Garden Clubs to
martial arts. Fill in a few hours a week with community volunteer work –
there’s plenty of options for young and old.
The local school caters
for primary children and an option of four high schools with bus travel
in the neighbouring towns will take care of the older ones. Growing up
here is uncomplicated and busy with outdoor activities where learning
life skills comes naturally.
Rental houses are currently in
extremely high demand (Dec 2015) and there is an option for either
permanent occupants or rental as a holiday home.
The Tairua Marina
mooring section is complete and the shops/accommodation building is
nearing completion due for March 2016. The next stage of waterfront
apartments is due to start later this year.
Property prices have
risen slightly towards the end of the calendar year of 2015 as the
market becomes more confident to purchase holiday homes again. The real
estate offices have had a very busy summer and 2016 is predicted to
continue along this trend.
