Swimming
Where: The Esplanade & the Main Road BridgeSwim in the crystal clear waters of Tairua in the Harbour or the Ocean Beach. The Esplanade is a popular spot which drops off for reasonable depth and is often as calm as a mill pond. The Main Road pedestrian bridge attracts many jumpers and high tide each summer, taking the plunge into the channel. For the young family members, the reserve on the west side of the Main Road bridge is popular for it's shallow safe water.
Kayaking & SUP
Kayaking and Stand Up Paddleboarding is popular in the main Harbour. The majority of the Tairua Harbour is waist deep and safe for even the most shy of water goers. Two inlets into the Harbour allow for good old fashioned exploration at high tide.
Fishing
There are a multitude of options for fishing in and around the local Tairua waters. Talk to almost any local and they will tell you the best areas to head and the best seasons. Fishing off the 2 wharf's is popular, as is fishing directly from Ocean Beach. Join the local Tairua Fishing Club and relax in their prime location bar and restaurant overlooking the harbour. Get involved with some of the many fishing competitions based right here in Taiura.
